JOB DESCRIPTION:
This person will play a technical leadership role in the area of cell biology related to biomaterials, including the development of cell-biomaterial combination products, cell-based product evaluation, and understanding mechanisms of action in implant and wound healing applications. This person will conduct scientific research and product development within the department under minimal guidance of his/her supervisor. Ph.d in Cell Biology or equivalent.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
1) Design and conduct in vitro biological studies, such as cell viability, cell adhesion and migration, and cytotoxicity assays, to:
a) Evaluate new product prototypes.
b) Develop new cell/biomaterial combinational medical device.
c) Develop new in vitro testing procedures to characterize and evaluate new biomaterials/products.
d) Determine likely mechanisms of action in wound-healing and other applications
e) Validate/optimize testing procedures.
2) Prepare various documentation/reports.
a) Monthly progress report.
b) Development/validation/transfer reports.
c) Testing procedures/SOPs.
d) Publications to support new product marketing.
3) May be required to perform some routine biocompatibility tests according to Federal regulations, ISO standards, or other applicable SOPs.
a) Maintain cell lines.
b) Accurate record keeping in laboratory notebooks/worksheets.
c) Review of raw data.
4) Participate in other product development teams as needed.
5) Supervision of lower level staff as required.
6) Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
